The Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit class is intended for those who wish to carry concealed in multiple states, and provides other benefits to the permit holder. The class covers all information required by the State of South Dakota, to include:
1. South Dakota law relating to firearms and the use of force;
2. The basic concepts of the safe and responsible use of handguns;
3. Self-defense principles;
4. Live fire training including the firing of at least ninety-eight rounds of ammunition by the student.
In March of 2022 Governor Kristi Noem signed SB 212 into law. This law repeals all concealed carry permit fees for the state’s residents. South Dakota offers residents a series of three different five-year Carry Permits: Standard, Gold and Enhanced. The Enhanced Permit has a training mandate attached to it. Applicants for the Enhanced Permits have to cover training costs paid to certified instructors. We provide the State approved training.
Prerequisites to take the class:
While there are no official prerequisites to take the class, we respectfully ask that you are familiar with your firearm, have fired it recently, and that your firearm be in good working condition, cleaned and oiled. Since our instructor must observe every student firing the required rounds, it's just not fair to the other students if you are just learning to shoot, or have constant mechanical malfunctions due to an unfamiliar or poorly maintained firearm.
However, we will work with anyone who signs up.
Benefits of having a Concealed Carry Permit:
Reciprocity:
South Dakota is a Constitutional Carry state, meaning there is no permit required to carry open or concealed, but due to reciprocity laws, the South Dakota Concealed Carry Permit is currently recognized in 37 additional states.
No background check for gun purchases:
Gold Card Concealed Carry Permit and Enhanced Concealed Carry Permits issued on or after January 1, 2017, qualify as alternatives to a NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) background check. Regular Concealed Carry Permits issued on or after July 1, 2018, can also be used as an alternative to the required NICS background check.
